Private Party by Victoria Velato

Private Party

Somewhere along the line
Somewhere along the line
we fell out of sync.
You stopped telling me
the things I needed to hear
to keep my spirits afloat.
You haven’t told me that I’m beautiful,
and I began to believe I was ugly.
You take no notice of how smart I am,
but point out all my mistakes.
Dinner used to include a glass of wine,
now it involves a drive thru window
and food wrapped in paper.
You don’t even look at me anymore.

Look at me.
Listen to me NOW.

It’s time to close the gap.
We are all we have.
If we don’t love each other,
we’ll never discover the love we want.
So let’s start over.
Repeat after me:

You are beautiful.
You are talented.
You are smart.
You are funny.
You are worthy to be loved.
You are valuable.
You are a gift.
You are a treasure
and I love you just the way you are.

Let’s celebrate this love!
